Christmas!
Thursday, December 25th, 2003Well, the day is over, and I must say this was one of the best Christmases I’ve had in a LONG time, if not the best ever. Total gifts I received:
Wolf Calendar
Steel CD holder
Leather CD holder
Encyclopaedia of the Harley Davidson
Best of David Bowie - Two Disk CD Set
Craftsman Speed-Lock Drill Bit Set
Digital Tyre Gauge
Beanie Baby - Decade Bear
Two “Zoom” Copters (those things people fly in the mall)
Lego Lunar Lander
Lego Police Station
Lego Police Cruiser
Lego Police Surveillance Rig
Lego Police Undercover Unit
Lego Police Helicopter
Lego Police Armoured Truck
Lego Landbusters (Design Set)
Miscellaneous Candy & Cash
But the best gift of all was the Lego Breezeway Cafe, a reproduction from 1990. When I was growing up, my dad was quite the hypermasculine jerk, and he had a problem with my Legos being too “girly”. This created a problem because I was always very feminine and enjoyed playing with my sister’s Barbie dolls. After my dad burned those, I was left with my Legos. Fortunately, he never burned those, but he had a tendency to break anything I built that too closely resemble a dollhouse, and he refused to buy any new Lego sets that looked too girly. Anyway, for years and years I wanted the Breezeway Cafe for a Lego town I planned to build, but he wouldn’t get it. And the month that it stopped appearing in the Shop-At-Home catalog, I cried for days (and was spanked for crying like a baby). So, this year, Lego started reproducing it, and my mom got it for me for Christmas as a Santa gift, since my sister still believes in him. I cried for almost an hour, it was very symbolically powerful for me, like I’d finally gotten some closure on the situation with my dad. I love my mom
