Hyperness!

Friday, February 27th, 2004

I’m not sure what happened, but I wasn’t tired at all last night, so I didn’t sleep. Perhaps it was because I spent all day Tuesday in bed, but I was out and about at 9:00 this morning, after harassing Swift on AIM and posting on some message boards. I went to Big L to get my car diagnosed; turns out it needs new brake rotors. Since I like the idea of being able to literally stop on a dime, and they said it’s not hurting anything like it is, I’m going to wait until next month to get it fixed, and have them install some high-performance brake rotors. I then ran some errands and came home, where I intended to reprogram my car alarm but ended up just playing UT all afternoon. About halfway through my fifth game, I felt incredibly tired, so I went upstairs with the intention of taking a short nap. Apparently, I forgot to turn on my alarm after meticulously calculating exactly how long I could sleep, because I awoke to my mom bitching at me about how I’m going to lose my job for being late (something I’m pretty certain won’t happen, but I digress). Got to work a half-hour late, after calling my boss and telling her I still wasn’t feeling well but I was determined to come in and get my job done (brownie points!), and did the usual filing of many manila folders. Got in the car, ran by Wal-Mart, got gas, came home, talked online. Average boring day overall.

One thing that’s starting to get annoying about where I work is that one of my co-workers is a big fan of the local conservative talk radio stations, and she turns the volume up so damn loud that there’s no escaping it! Granted, I’m one of about three people in the entire COMPANY who doesn’t agree with what’s being said on those shows, but that’s not the point. The point is that she’s disrupting the workplace quite badly, but no one wants to say anything to her because she has seniority over everyone in our department. I think our supervisor will talk to her, though.

Oh yeah, and I skipped school today simply because I can. My mind already left for my vacation, I just can’t catch up to it until Saturday.

My Network

Here are the specs on all my computers, as posted in a message board (reposted here because I went to the trouble of typing all this up and I want people to see it), listed in the order that they pop into my head:

Fursuit Parts Update

Wednesday, February 25th, 2004

Well, I talked to the guy who’s making my tail/ears/paws, and he’s not going to have them finished by this weekend. Apparently, he’s having a lot of life/relationship problems, but he said he’d be finished in time for Pawpets Megaplex, so it’s all good. I hope things work out for him.

UT 2004

Wednesday, February 25th, 2004

I played Unreal Tournament 2004 today. It was slightly better than 2003, but I still prefer Classic UT. Verdict? Don’t waste your money.

Rant Time! (I-81)

Wednesday, February 25th, 2004

Ok kiddies, gather ’round for a wonderful LJ rant!

As you remember, I posted a small rant a while back about toll roads. Now, VDOT wants to expand I-81 (the highway I live on) from four lanes to eight, and pay for the expansion with tolls, making it the ONLY toll road in the state! And I drive that road EVERY DAY! I mean, I realize that the traffic is rather heavy on that road, but it’s nothing compared to NoVA or NYC, and expanding the road will only make things worse since people down here don’t know how to drive. Plus, the vast majority of people are opposed to tolling the road, and are also opposed to expanding the road in the first place (from what I’ve read). Yet VDOT just said “That’s nice, but we’re in the mood to build a road, and you get to pay for it whether you like it or not”. Isn’t an elected government supposed to LISTEN to the constituents who put them in office? This kind of crap happens all the time around here, the local government spends thousands and thousands of dollars conducting polls on various issues, they have lots of open meetings, they publish the findings that 60-90% of area residents are opposed to whatever controversial project is making headlines, and then they go through with it anyway. And these people manage to get re-elected! So far, the unpopular projects they’ve used tax dollars for include a municipal golf course (despite the fact that we already have TWO local country clubs, with a third not too far away), a new high school that isn’t big enough to handle the students they’re projecting we’ll have (yet they won’t renovate a perfectly good elementary school building that we need), a shopping center with the world’s most poorly-designed parking lot, and now the expansion of a road that doesn’t actually need expanding. They wanted to build a beltway that would have destroyed ~1000 acres of high-quality farm land, plus two church camps and at least one historical site, but I think that idea’s been pretty much scrapped.

As much as I like this area, I might be moving in the next few years.

Sick

Wednesday, February 25th, 2004

Yeah, I spent all of yesterday in bed. I got up around 11:00 AM, threw up, then went back to bed. I dunno what happened, but I felt like crap all day. I’m feeling a bit better now, but not well enough to go to school. I might not go to work either. I just hope I feel better by this weekend.

Politics!

Monday, February 23rd, 2004

Ok, all you political people out there, listen up. I’m not sure I’ve talked about it here, but I’m a member of a political simulation called VirtualAmerica. It’s lots of fun, you get to be a senator and vote on stuff/propose legislation. You can also be appointed to various judiciary positions, run for president, and meet new people. However, the game is in trouble. We have almost no active democrats, not even enough to staff all of our committees. So, I ask all of you (especially liberals) to join the game. It’s a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it it’s pretty easy. Just go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VirtualAmerica_Ellis_Island/ and join the group, I’ll make sure you’re accepted rapidly.

I’m also a member of USASim, which doesn’t need many people, but it’s much more active right now and about to open the House of Representatives. For more information on it, go to www.usasim.net, but if you only join one game, join VirtualAmerica, it needs you more than USASim does.

Furry Update

Sunday, February 22nd, 2004

Well, I finalized some trip plans, I’m definitely going to Swift’s party in Pittsburg next weekend, which I’m already excited for. I’m also going to Pawpets Megaplex with Skippy Fox (among others), we’re putting together a big furry convoy to Florida. I hope whoever’s riding with me likes the same music as I do, since I intend on listening to lots of XM during the trip.

My ears, paws, and tail are being worked on, the guy who’s making them messed up the paws and had to order new fur so he could start over. He said they’d be here in time for Swift’s party, though, even if he had to overnight them.

I’ve been staying up too late playing Furcadia, too, it’s starting to wear on me. The guy I RP with most of the time is only online late at night, though, so he and I might have to work something out.
