DAMMIT!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2004

Dammit dammit dammit, I hate this computer sometimes. I had thought my C: drive was the one that was dying, so I backed up all my data onto my D: drive before installing the new drive. Turns out it was the D: drive that was dying, so all my stuff was on the bad drive. After rebuilding the system, I tried to retrieve my data, in hopes that the drive would work one last time, but it’s pretty much dead. It couldn’t wait another couple boots, it had to die TONIGHT! So now, I have no installers for any of my software, all my personal files from the last 8 years or so are gone, 16gb worth of music is gone, a bunch of video clips, and all of my websites. Most of that is irreplaceable.

I have one last idea I want to try, hopefully it’ll make a difference. The drive won’t let a computer it’s installed in boot up, so I’m going to try sticking it in an external device and using it as a USB or Firewire drive. It’ll have to wait until tomorrow, though, since the only person I know of who has one is asleep right now, and Wal-Mart doesn’t have them.

I’m disabling commenting on this entry because a lot of you are fellow computer nerds, and someone is likely to post “That won’t work” on here. The last thing my mood needs right now is someone disillusioning my hopes of recovering my data, or my website/image files at the very least.

New Stuff

Tuesday, March 30th, 2004

My new hard drive arrived today, and my main computer is trying to format it as I type. It’s been sitting at 0% in the Windows installer/formatter screen for awhile now, so I don’t know what the deal is. I found out that it wasn’t my C: drive that was acting up, but rather my secondary drive. Which seems odd to me, considering that the D: drive has nothing to do with any of the processes that would slow the system down, but whatever. It’ll be working now, and life is good. I’m posting from my laptop right now, which is why I’m not on AIM or anything. I’ll get online tomorrow, until then, those who have my home/business number are more than welcome to give me a call.

In preparation to rebuild my computer, I set up my Windows 2000 Advanced Server system as a router/firewall/DHCP server, so my gaming system won’t have to deal with such tasks. It seems to be working fine, but the DNS server functions aren’t working, so I need to work on that. It shares the internet connection and passes out IP addresses, which is what I was looking for.

I also finally got my new brakes installed on my car, and they look NICE! So pretty and shiny, kinda match the wheels. They aren’t quite broken in yet, but I can already tell a difference in my stopping distance. Later this week I’ll work on detailing the whole car, and my good friend LJ:trlovejoy agreed to take some pictures of it for me with his nice digital camera (which I will steal, or not).

You might be a furry if…

Tuesday, March 30th, 2004

Ever heard Jeff Foxworthy’s “You Might be a Redneck If…” jokes? They’re kinda like this:

You might be a redneck if…
-You have a house that is mobile and fourteen cars that aren’t
-You have a complete set of salad bowls and they all say “Cool Whip” on the side
-Someone asks for your ID and you show ‘em your belt buckle

The Furry Teens Yahoo group compiled a list of them for furs, here’s what we came up with! The parentheticals are my own comments, perhaps y’all can get to know me better from reading them :)

Angstiness

Tuesday, March 30th, 2004

[EDIT: The first part of this post has been resolved, so I removed it]

I need to get out of this town. All I can think about is how my odds of finding a date-able gay/bi babyfur within a reasonable driving distance are less than my odds of winning the lottery while being struck by lightning in a tornado. Hell, I’d even settle for a “normal” fur, but they don’t exist around here either. There’s creepy werewolf guy who lives an hour south, a bunch of folks in DC (2.5 hours northwest), and that’s it. Even 4-5 hours away, my upper limit for regularly-occuring road trips, there’s no one.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty much stuck here until I clear up some debt and get my car transferred to my name. I’m reluctant to leave, because I like the area, and I really can’t afford to be independant from my mom right now, but I can’t go on like this. The lonliness is killing me.

Good grief, the joys of angsty friends.

Adding People!

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

I went on an friend-adding spree a few minutes ago, so if you are on my friends list and don’t know why, chances are good that I met you either in Florida or somewhere in PA. Or maybe you know someone I met in FL/PA and seem interesting :)

Madicon! Day Two (2004)

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

I was up until like 5:00 AM, so I slept in until 1:00 PM, and didn’t get over to the con until 3:30. The con itself was kinda boring like yesterday. I set up my laptop in the LAN room and got my tail kicked at UT2004, though I blame my slow system. I wandered a bit, saw a couple other obvious furs (they had cat ears and tails on), but I didn’t get to talk to them much. I also met up with , whom I hadn’t seen IRL in almost two years. I talked to him for a few minutes, loaned him $20 for con registration, then he ran off to go to dinner with some people. I joined a LARP (Live Action Role Play) with some friends from HS, which was fun until we got into combat, which seemed excessively complicated, and then everyone went for food and the whole thing fell apart. It was fun while it lasted, though, I had a werewolf character (of course), and there were a couple more werewolves in the game, so we had our own little pack to cover each other’s tails.

I talked to Sandy this afternoon, she had a horrible wreck on the street she lives on. From what I heard, she apparently went around a curve a bit too fast, slid on some gravel, and rolled her Jeep. The poor truck is totaled, but thankfully she made it out without any major injuries, just a few scratches and bumps. I offered to buy her a Slurpee to help her recover (since Slurpees fix everything), but she was understandably wary about riding in a vehicle right then.

Ironically, her accident brought Joe and I into our first conversation since things between us went to crap. Since Sandy’s phone was still in her Jeep right after the accident, the first non-family member she called was Joe, since his phone was the only number she knew from memory. She asked him to let me know what happened when I got to the con. I already found out because she wrecked right in front of my mom’s best friend’s ex-husband’s house, and he called my mom, and my mom told me what happened. I was still in bed half-asleep at the time, so I don’t remember precisely how I found out about it, but that’s the basics of it. My conversation with Joe went something like this:

“Hey [Felix], did you hear about Sandy’s wreck?”
“Yeah, I talked to her this afternoon”
“Ahh, ok, [insert incoherent mumbling here]”

Joe proceeded to do other things while mumbling about who-knows-what. I will never date a friend again, no matter what my feelings for him are.

Madicon 2004 & Such

Saturday, March 27th, 2004

Wow, I think y’all broke some kind of commenting record on that last entry, at least in my journal. And no one posted a mean comment, you guys rock :)

Moving on to Madicon, the first day was a bit dull to be honest. Perhaps it’s because I don’t do any paper RPGs (which is what the con basically revolves around), but I just didn’t feel like I fit. Oh well, it was only $15, and I didn’t have to park halfway across campus like everyone else, so I suppose it was worth it. I did get to see lots of people I haven’t seen in awhile, so that was cool. And, it’s only the first day, tomorrow might be better, and I think I’ve been invited to the con party, which will be fun. There’s a perpetual LAN party going on there, I brought my laptop and played some UT, which I thought I was half-decent at, but these people are insanely good at that game. I finished pretty close to last place in every round. Oh well, it’s all fun!

As expected, Joe was at the con, and he was avoiding me like the plague even though I had planned to be nice to him, so he either feels guilty about what happened, and/or he found out about my reaction to his real reason for breaking up with me. I’m kinda torn over the whole thing, I mean on the one paw, it seems silly to carry a grudge this long. But on the other paw, some things that have come to my attention about him make me want to do evil things to him. Perhaps I’ll just continue avoiding him, save the “let’s be friends again” crap for some other time.

Oh yeah, and some people were asking if what hotel I was staying in for Madicon. Let me say this clearly, in case it wasn’t obvious before: Madicon is in Harrisonburg. I live in Harrisonburg. Therefore, I am not staying in a hotel because I HAVE A HOUSE HERE. Sorry, but that’s been bugging me all day for some reason.

Coming Out! Err, Again (Furry)

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Yes, I have a revelation for those who don’t already know it. I am a furry. And now, your questions, or rather the ones that come to mind at 3:00 AM or whatever the hell time it is right now.
