Tax Disks?

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

This entry is mostly directed at those of you (anyone?) who live in the UK. In my quest to increase the uniqueness of my truck, I’d like to acquire a tax disk for it. Silly? Perhaps, but I’m a silly pup anyway :-P

Problem is, I haven’t really been able to find anyone selling reproductions from a relevant year, or even any decent photos of what these things even look like. The only thing I’ve found is oodles of holders for them, which only increased my curiousity.

So, for vehicles registered in the UK, how much data is displayed on one? Are they turned in when they expire, or just thrown out? If anyone can help me acquire one that isn’t vintage, you’d have my undying gratitude (plus all necessary expenses covered, and then some :-) ).

In other news, I figured out that with some modification, I can replace my headlights (not an actual photo of my truck) with the ones from a 2003 Discovery. The newer style lights are more expensive than the OEM lights on my truck, but they look quite sexy, and no one else has done it before [grins & bounces]. I also installed some overhead floodlights for off-roading, they ought to work pretty well (pics coming soon). Yay for clearance sales at Wal-Mart :-D

Damn, what a weekend! I went to the Fall Fur-B-Q in Pittsburgh, and had a hell of a time as always.

Parts Update

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

I picked up the aforementioned brush guard today, and Fox and I worked on trying to straighten it out (the previous vehicle had apparently been wrecked, it was bent up pretty bad). We got the mounting brackets straightened out without much trouble, and started working on the tube rails. The upper rail was fine, but the lower rail was bent inwards, and the right side was bent back. So, we heated up the lower rail, Fox jumped on it a bit, and it bent just fine. Then, we started working on the right end section.

Rover Stuff

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

Over the weekend, I was flipping through various websites, and I got sucked into looking at www.licenseplates.tv, a site that sells reproduction license plates from various countries all over the world, as well as novelty plates and such. I’d ordered something from there before, a German plate from the early 80s for Fox’s car, and I like looking through their collection every once in awhile. I glanced at the British plates, and had an idea: Put a British plate on the front of my Rover, and move the VA plate somewhere else. So, I ordered a new-style one (British plates are generally boring, but the newer ones don’t suck as bad) with my radio callsign on it, and proceeded to get my bumper ready for the new plate configuration.
