Flat Tires Suck, or Why Fox Is Amazing

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

A couple nights ago, I was driving back home from a funeral-viewing thing for someone I barely knew at a funeral home in the middle of nowhere. I pulled out of the parking lot, went around a curve, and noticed that the truck was pulling really hard to the left. So, I pulled over and sure enough, the front left tire was flat as a board. I flagged someone down and called mom to pick me up, since she had just left before me. We went back home, picked up my floor jack and recovery gear/tools, and headed back to the truck. The floor jack, which was an early Xmas gift from grandma, is just barely tall enough to lift the truck on dry flat pavement. On a muddy roadside, with the tilt of the terrain working against me, it didn’t even come close. So, I called Fox, and asked if he had any ideas. He said my Chrismas gift could help, and he was on his way.

Merry Christmas To My Truck

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

All this week, I’ve been calling every junkyard in Virginia trying to find a Rover I can get the floor pan out of. I lost count of how many calls I actually made, but not a single one even had a Rover, much less an unrusted one. I was starting to lose hope, when I saw a new thread on the Rover forum titled “Parting Out Discoverys”. Turned out that guy was in Virginia, down in Danville, so I gave him a call. He said he’d just gotten a Discovery I in, and I was welcome to the floor from it. Yay! So, this morning, I headed down to Danville.

Anthrocon ‘06

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

When reading through someone else’s LJ, it occurred to me that I normally have all my of Anthrocon trip arrangements made by December, and I forgot all about it! So, Fox and I have our room reserved now, and after Christmas I should be registered. Also, this is just preliminary, but if anyone wants to room with us at AC, we’ll have two spots available, so let me or Fox know if you’re interested :-)
