Car Pictures!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Yay! I finally got around to taking pics of my car and posting them! Hope you all enjoy these.

The car is a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, originally used for light suburban patrol as a slicktop. The previous owner bought it at auction, had it professionally patched (antenna holes) and painted black, and traded it to a local dealer for a Subaru.

New Car Pictures!

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Yay, we’re back to warm weather! Fox and I were working on my car (1999 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor) today, and I took some pictures. Still don’t have any good full-vehicle shots, though, hopefully I can do some this weekend.

First off, we installed some Hella Super Horns on it, they’re LOUD! Kinda cool-looking too, I almost wish they could’ve gone in the grille instead of the factory location behind the bumper.

Weird-Ass Weather

Friday, March 16th, 2007

For the last two days, it’s been warm here, enough to have the air conditioning on.

Today? My company closed for SNOW. SNOW! Less than 24 hours after 75 degree temperatures.

As glad as I am to have an early start to my weekend, this is really annoying.

Mail Server?

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Question for the techie-types out there…

I’m planning to move to a co-located server in about September to replace my current simple-hosting account with iPowerWeb. They’ve been a great host, but recent complications have shown that I need more control over my server, so it’s time to move on.

Unfortunately, I’ve hit a very significant speed bump in my planning. I’ve discovered that mail server software, particularly the kind that includes webmail access, is obscenely, painfully, ridiculously expensive. Merak Mail Server, what I was originally looking at, would cost about $1500 PER YEAR, for example.

So, does anyone have any input? Here’s what I need:

-Needs to run on Windows*
-POP3, SMTP (authenticated), and webmail access
-At least 1000 users, preferably unlimited
-Multiple/unlimited domains
-Capable of some sort of spam filtering
-No more than $500, preferably free

Exchange 2003 is theoretically an option, but having heard what a soul-crushing experience it is to configure Exchange and keep it running, I’d rather stay away from that one.

Thanks!

* = There are a multitude of reasons I can’t/won’t run unix, not the least of which being that I have no freaking clue how to use it despite multiple attempts to learn. Regardless, keep in mind that “run unix” is not a valid option in this case.

Madicon 2007 In Review

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Wee, another Madicon. This was my fourth year in a row going to it, and while it seems blasphemous not to go (it’s less than two miles from my house), I probably wouldn’t have gone if it weren’t for the associated LAN party. That said, it was definitely a better experience than last year.

Madicon 2007

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Another year, another Madicon. Like last year, Fox and I will be hosting the LAN room at the con, and there shall be much LAN gaming! Considering that it’s being hosted by Fox and I, it’ll definitely be furry-friendly. So, if you like to play LAN games, come on down!

Madicon (www.madicon.org) is held at the Festival Student Center on JMU campus on March 9-11. The room we’re in will be well-secured at night, so you don’t have to worry about stuff walking away.

We’re still working on a games list, but it’s pretty much whatever folks want to play. There will definitely be Starcraft and Unreal Tournament (2004 and probably at least a few rounds of GOTY), and probably Half Life 2. Beyond that, the list is up for grabs, so bring whatever you want (and enough to share ;-P ).

Unfortunately, the one crash-space spot available at our house has already been filled. However, there are good hotels in the area for suprisingly low rates (in fact, every hotel in town except Budget Inn and Days Inn would be recommendable) if you’re coming from too far away to drive home.

We’d love to have more people here, so if you’re up for some LAN gaming, come on down!
