Congratulations, "Big Lipped Alligator Moment" is now a part of my vocabulary. I think the only thing about Ferngully I remember, is how much the plot confused me when I watched it as a kid. :P

And as dumb as Twister is... I love to watch this movie when the warning sirens are going off outside. :P

Aw darn, let's hope they show up when we're in Charlottesville for Jamie's appointment. PETA people are such morons (calling the police because some guy is eating a sandwich? wtf) When we get Karma back and the next time we go to Norfolk, Jamie's letting me take Karma to their main office-type building (it's fucking huge) so I can bother them about why they hate our dear energizer puppy (ok, dog, but she'll always be a big puppy to us).

Although your statement is correct about the fate of the referendum, your analysis of the town is a little off point. Bellevue and its residents are quite typical of the Pittsburgh region.

I appreciate the comment. Admittedly, I've never actually been to Bellevue, I usually spend my time in Troy Hill/downtown or Aspinwall. But, from my point of view, it seems exceptionally out-of-character for a town to be dry in that area.

As for being off-point, part of the reason why I discussed that aspect of this story is because in the area where I currently live, blue laws are frequently the subject of debate, so I found it rather interesting to hear about something like this in an area where I wouldn't normally expect it to be a news-worthy issue.

Although your statement is correct about the fate of the referendum, your analysis of the town is a little off point. Bellevue and its residents are quite typical of the Pittsburgh region. I think the decision of not starting to allow the sale of alcohol is a practical one. It answers the questions: 1. Will the sale of alcohol help Bellevue or hurt Bellevue?, 2. Will it ruin the business district? 3. Who will benefit? Also, change is difficult. Unless there is a strong reason to change, most voters (older) will vote no.

Well, at least if it sucks, you'll have a good giggle over Simon Pegg. I know I will :)

Personally, I like the shows, save for Enterprise, and loathe the movies. But being subject to them all my entire life (save the past couple years cos Jamie hates Star Trek), I think I'm allowed. I'm hoping the movie won't be as god-awful long as all the others.

With J.J. Abrams behind the new movie, I can only hope that there will be steady camera shots (Cloverfield) and no plot twists that exist only the screw with your brain (Lost). I wouldn't be surprised if ST: The Experiance gets a new-movie makeover.

BTW - I prefer TNG myself ;)

Comment on Smoking Ban, Virginia Style by Manders

The apocalyptic sense of that one message is rather amusing.

I find that banning smoking in restaraunts is fine, as long as it's not a pub/bar because isn't that the point of a pub or bar? drink and a smoke? (or a show depending on the venue). It's just the same as smoking in a grocery store..oh! did you know that (probably until this law) it was/is perfectly legal to smoke in a grocery store as long as it's not in the line? I found this out because my dad is an ass and smokes while grocery shopping. Unless there is a sign on the door/right outside of the door (whatever) that states smoking is prohibited, it is perfectly legal. Crazy shit, huh?

In personal opinion, how it was relayed here was that the smoking ban would be the worst in the country, to the point where it'd be illegal to smoke outside in the open (like in a park or on a sidewalk). Maybe it was just Roanoke? It wouldn't be the first time they did something retarded like that.

I think in a privately-owned business, you should be allowed to do whatever you want with it because it's a privately owned business. No, I don't think it's right to ban smoking in your own car or in a bar, pub, or club. I think it's fucking stupid as hell that you cannot smoke at a festival of any sort, even if it's outside. You can't smoke at the fair, at Pride, or at the Strawberry festival even though it's outside. Being locked in a room is one thing but...outside? where the smoke dissapates and if you're too close to someone you can move away from them. Jamie's mentioning some of the rules to me now as I type this but I remember the festival/park thing.

No, I don't want to smell smoke (or smoke, though I'm not allowed to) while I eat, but it doesn't bother me as much as say someone whose only exposure to it is from that chainsmoker at the adjoining booth or the table next to them. But, most smokers don't do that. Some wait until after they've eaten to have a smoke. But yeah, I should stop and go back to NCIS. *hugs* You have fascinating opinions
