Miscellaneous Collective Update
Heh, it’s been awhile since I made a real post, eh? Figured I might as well.
I’ve been hammering out code on my website left and right, it’s become my new hobby. My computer science teachers always said I had a natural talent for programming, I just never felt passionate about it until now. Something about PHP scripting makes me feel far more productive than writing little mini-programs in C++.
I spent the weekend with
efwolfcub,
cadpigjr, Snuggems, Chrono, and Kitcoon a couple weeks ago, and had a very nice time, thanks guys! They took me up to a meetup of fire spinners nearby, and I got to use Wolfcub’s DSLR camera to photograph the spinners since I forgot my camera. I must say, if I wanted a DSLR before, I REALLY want one now! His camera was only slightly larger than mine, but the extra mass made it much easier to stabilize, and I was able to get some really amazing shots without a tripod (forgot that, too). I’ll post them later as a photo post.
Last week, we went down to King’s Dominion, my mom won a couple tickets and decided that a Thursday would be the best day to take everyone down there. It was a fun trip, but I was really disappointed in the rides. They changed the tolerances on some of the restraints, and set the more extreme ones up to require a seatbelt to be fastened to the restraint bars, I guess as a failsafe. The seatbelt shortens the maximum size of the restraint bars, making many of the more extreme rides unridable to people over 5′6″, regardless of body weight. I was completely unable to ride two of my favourite roller coasters, Volcano and Flight of Fear, due to this change, and it had nothing to do with weight. And one that was very comfy last year, the Hypersonic XLC, was almost painful to ride this year.
I had more to post here, but I can’t think of it right now. I’ll make another entry later, I guess.

DSLRs are nice, aren’t they? ^^ I wish I had one myself as well.

After Anthrocon we headed to Cedar Point: America’s Roller Coast for a couple of days. We took in twelve of the seventeen roller coasters. It was mad fun. My loving bunny grew up going to Cedar Point, and both his parents worked at the park in their youth. His grandmother owned one of the concession stands back in the day.
One of the things he noted was how they added seat belts to many of the coasters that did not have them before. They also added breaks in places where breaks had not been on at least one of the rides.
I’m new to this whole roller coaster thing. In spite of the safety belts and breaks, I had a really good time.

Maybe because the results tend to look more at home on a modern computer. I dunno what version of C++ you used, but we were stuck with console and the rather unnatural-looking .NET.

Some sandboxed output window on Macs. The stuff we wrote couldn’t even be run on a PC.

Aww, so you went with them? Caddy was telling me about the spinners. *giggle* Glad you had fun.
