Gold’s Gym

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Fox and I joined Gold’s Gym today, since they’re the only place in town that’s open late enough for me to actually take advantage of it. Their rates are pretty good (I guess, never had a gym membership before), and it looks like a pretty nice place. Plus, the owner/manager, who signed us up, is a lesbian, so they were more than happy to set us up with a family plan :-)

So, if all goes well, I’ll be much better-looking by AC. Because of my bad ankle, about all I can really do on a regular basis is weight training, so if nothing else I’ll be as strong as an ox by then.

I’ve definitely decided that a fursuit is in my future, and dropping some weight is the first of four hurdles to pulling off the character I want. It’s probably at least a year off, possibly more, but joining the gym was the first thing I’ve done to actually set things in motion. So, my goal is to drop down to no more than 190 pounds by January 2008.

Flat Tires Suck, or Why Fox Is Amazing

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

A couple nights ago, I was driving back home from a funeral-viewing thing for someone I barely knew at a funeral home in the middle of nowhere. I pulled out of the parking lot, went around a curve, and noticed that the truck was pulling really hard to the left. So, I pulled over and sure enough, the front left tire was flat as a board. I flagged someone down and called mom to pick me up, since she had just left before me. We went back home, picked up my floor jack and recovery gear/tools, and headed back to the truck. The floor jack, which was an early Xmas gift from grandma, is just barely tall enough to lift the truck on dry flat pavement. On a muddy roadside, with the tilt of the terrain working against me, it didn’t even come close. So, I called Fox, and asked if he had any ideas. He said my Chrismas gift could help, and he was on his way.

Foxie Cuteness

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Normally, I wouldn’t picture a babyfur as a mechanic. But tonight, I saw how it makes sense.

I was playing Second Life while Fox was outside trying to diagnose a transmission problem. I hadn’t seen or heard from him in awhile, so I went outside to check up on him. I walk out onto the porch, and see him sitting on the ground with a half-torn-apart transmission (the old one from his car) in front of him, surrounded by gears and bolts, and he looked up at me with this adorable “Look what I did!” grin. I asked what he was doing, and he said he was tearing apart his old transmission to help diagnose the current one. To top off the cuteness overload, he had this grease spot on his forehead, like a little kid playing in the mud or something.

Who needs kids when I have a cute fox to keep me entertained :-P

I’m Alive!

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Finally got my machine put back together, so life is good now :-)

Work sucks worse now. The company I work for may completely vanish any day now, according to my boss. Hopefully I’ll be able to make Anthrocon work.

Fox rocks, he’s getting set up down here remarkably fast, and my mom loves him, so all is good.

Look for a website update this weekend ;-)

New Harrisonburg Fur!

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

Fox made it down here safely, after his hectic week of packing. I kinda dropped the ball getting things ready for his arrival, but everything’s fine. He has one big bitch of a moving truck! It’s a full-size panel truck with a 26′ cargo box, plus 12′ of car trailer, for a total of about 45 feet of vehicle. Thankfully, our street parking is seldom used, so we had no problem stashing it out front.

Friday, he got a bit of a late start (packing takes time, ya know), and made it here at about 3:30am. We unloaded his clothes and stuff at the house, had a nice rest, and worked on the rest of it Saturday. He rented a unit at Mini-Stor-It, and we unloaded the bulk of his stuff into there. And, with the help of a very strong buddy of mine, we had the whole truck unloaded in two hours. Back at the house, we replaced my double bed with a queen bed he brought, and set up his computer and such. Talk about a busy day!

Today was much more relaxed, we took a load of stuff to my storage unit, rearranged it quite a bit (Fox is the master at packing!), and then went out for a nice dinner at Dan’s Steakhouse. We stopped by the Massanutten History overlook on Rt. 211 for a short little hike, and he’s now playing a FarCry final tournament.

So, if any of my local buddies want to get together and do something this week, just let me know :-D

Randomness

I suck at LiveJournal :-P

Work sucks, as usual. I have pretty much nothing to do, and if I decide to check out the security forum on DSLReports.com instead of sitting around watching dust settle, my boss whines about it. Hopefully I’ll be out of there soon, but it still grates on my nerves to get an email saying “You should spend your time on things other than web surfing”. Shove it, [boss's name here].

In other news, I’ve decided that I definitely want to sell the Rover, and I want to do it as soon as I get a couple things taken care of in it. It’s a good truck, and a hell of an off-roader, but I can’t afford the payments right now, and it’s not what I want in the long-term. So, if anyone’s interested in buying a ‘95 Land Rover Discovery that’s in good condition, call 540-867-5309 and let me know about it.

The Integra needs new tires, front and rear. The fronts were replaced last March, right before Megaplex. The rears have been on it since before we got the car, and I’ve put over 30,000 miles on it since then. My mom wants to buy some cheapos for it, and thinks that spending more than $40/tire is a waste, so I think I’m going to save up and get four nice tires for it at some point, possibly before AC.

I downloaded a bunch of new UT maps tonight, ought to be fun for LANS, especially for the people who say that they’re tired of playing it all the time. Some of them suck, some don’t work, but most of them kick tail and I look forward to playing them at LANs :-D

Speaking of LAN parties, I hosted the first one of the season (aka summer) last night, had a couple people over, it rocked as usual. Didn’t get to play quite as many games as I wanted, but there’ll be lots of others. Now that school is out, and all my nerd friends are back home in Harrisonburg, we’re looking to have at least one LAN party per month, hopefully 2 or more.

Many of you know [info]fox_cub, but did you know that he’s moving? Well, you do now! He’s moving from Pittsburgh, PA, to Harrisonburg, VA (the town I live in) on June 10-11, and we’ll be needing some extra paws to load his stuff in Pittsburgh, and to unload his stuff down here. Pizza and drinks will be provided to all who assist, we need 4-5 people down here to unload, and an unknown number up there to load up. This will be posted to the furry lists in NoVA, MD, and PA once I get a couple more details, but I figured I’d put it here first.

Tomorrow I’m going to a Velvet Revolver concert (which is basically Guns ‘N’ Roses, for those who don’t know) in Virginia Beach, and it’s soooo gonna rock! I can’t wait! [bounces lots]

Next week is the final concert that my high school band director, Jim Warner, will be conducting. He’s been at Harrisonburg High School since 1979, and he taught my uncle (class of 1980), and I played my uncle’s trumpet in middle school and high school. Mr. Warner was a bit of a hard-ass sometimes, but he was always cool, and it’ll be sad to see him go.

The discussion board that accompanies the web comic I Drew This by David Craig Simpson is now hosted at Lupinia. So, check out the comic, and if you have something to say about it, come to www.lupinia.us/ireadthis and post to your heart’s content!

I think that about covers it. Yep. [curls up and falls asleep]

Beltaine!

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

This weekend, at the invitation of [info]fox_cub and [info]lilkitt, I got to go to the Beltaine celebration at Four Quarters Farm in southwestern Pennsylvania. I wouldn’t really describe my beliefs as “pagan”, or anything resembling the spiritual background of this group, but I try to be open-minded as much as possible, and I like trying new experiences, so I decided to go.

New Local Fur!

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

After a year of my recruiting efforts, I’ve finally brought a new fur to the Shenandoah Valley area! Please give a warm welcome to [info]fox_cub, who will be joining us in a couple months :-)
