Why is Homosexuality Considered Such a Sin? (REMOVED)
Felix Lockhart • June 26, 2003

The original article that was here has been removed.  Normally, I don't write an explanation when I do this, but the circumstances compel me to do so in this case.

The Homosexuality article was one of my first columns/editorials, and it is the only article I've written to date involving an in-depth theological analysis of any subject.  It will also be the last.  It was written at a time when, in my youthful arrogance, I thought I could actually change people's minds by writing about issues I felt passionately about (this subject, in particular, brings up stronger emotions for me than most).  Not only that, I actively wanted to do so, and pursued the matter at every opportunity.  I even joined a Christian discussion board for the sole purpose of engaging Christians in theological debates that, in my opinion, I would undoubtedly win.  I considered myself a Christian at the time, of course, but I also felt that most Christians were utterly wrong on a lot of points, and I saw it as my duty to show them the error of their ways.

As time went on, I lost faith in Christianity altogether, and subsequently lost my desire to discuss or debate religious topics at all.  Perhaps it was a greater maturity taking root, or burn-out from overexposure.  Whatever the case, I no longer held any sort of interest in the religions of others, nor did I have the passionate, aggressive spirit that spawned this article in the first place.

In the interest of maintaining a complete record of all my writings, I generally don't remove anything from my site, even articles I no longer wish to publicize.  However, every once in awhile, I'll pull something that I feel no longer represents my opinions, feelings, position, or attitude, and this falls into that category.

I don't regret writing this article, nor have I changed my feelings on the matter.  What I wrote needed to be said at the time.  However, I no longer wish to engage anyone, directly or indirectly, in a theological debate, and that's exactly what this article did (and it was poorly-researched at best, I wrote it in a one-night frenzy).  Additionally, it was written at a very heated point in the gay rights timeline, and things have cooled down significantly now, to the point that mainstream Americans pretty much don't have an issue with homosexuals at all.

In the last year or so, I've been back and forth dozens of times on whether or not I wanted to remove this article.  The deciding factor was that someone I know recently wrote a point-for-point rebuttal of it.  And in reading his counter-points, I realized with newfound clarity that I have no business keeping such a youthful rant on this site.  Times change, people change, and my own personality is perpetually evolving.

If you have further comments, questions, or feedback, please feel free to contact me.  The original text of this article is floating online still, but I no longer wish to have it on my site.  And if you find it, and want to use its content for your own theological arguments or whatever, I can't stop you, but at least do your own research instead of taking my word for it.

Peace, and Blessed Be
